Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.

Karl Marx (via philosophy-quotes)

So happy someone finally has the opiate quote in context.

Karl Marx liked a lot of things about religion! He thought it a great way to instill morality and philosophy into the masses. His goal was a world where that wasn’t needed.

He also saw the religious institutions as beholden to hegemonic capitalist interests, which they were/are

Professors who don’t know Marx fuck this up all the time.

You've arrived at the Trotsky fandom

Avatar Hi there, Tumblr. I'm Andy. I'm a Leninist with some decent Trotskyist tendencies (though I may be mixing that up with the gravitational force of his hair) and I love me some revolutionary history. I ship historical figures. You've been warned. Also, you know who's way better than me and perfect in every way? This guy. I'm completely in love with him. In contrast to my predominant state of Trotsky fanboy-ing, I do have some serious Leninist posts. There is quality yet.
